Prepared Northwest, Inc. is a planning and consulting home business for families in Oregon.
The owner, Rick Eilers, will make a personal visit to your residence, gather information on your concerns, survey the resources available and provide you with a comprehensive plan to address your needs and worries.
For example: You are troubled about the possibility of an eight day power outage due to a Northwest ice storm. We will help you develop a plan to meet the challenges that a power outage can cause. Are you housebound and unable to leave? Do you have a natural gas furnace with an electric fan? Is your stovetop electric or gas? Do you have a portable generator? Do you have a wood stove and a wood supply?
Some solutions: Yes, I have a 3KW portable generator. One possibility would be to hire an electrician to install a transfer switch on the furnace in which the generator could be plugged in. A furnace needs about two amps of power to run the fan and controls. Even a small generator can handle this load. Now you have heat (as long as your generator’s fuel supply lasts). That is another issue the plan would address.
Example #2: Loss of job. The worst time to cut back and prepare for an extended layoff is when you get your notice. Start making the list of priorities now and slowly gather resources to make that layoff an inconvenience compared to suffering.
Some solutions: Priority one is getting back to work as soon as possible, so what do you need to accomplish this? Food, cash, a reliable vehicle and fuel. Stock up on canned foods a little at a time by picking up extra’s on each shopping trip. Set aside cash each paycheck until a nest egg, that you think is sufficient, is reached. Keep your vehicle serviced and maintained. Stockpile full fuel cans for the vehicle to avoid hard hits to your cash reserves. Now you have a fed family, bills are covered, your car is fueled and ready to go. Now focus your efforts on that new job.
These examples would probably not fit most people’s current situation. There isn’t any one list that can take all the variables in to account and address each individual concern. The purpose of our questionnaire is to narrow down your specific goals, family size, age, location, current level of preparation and experience to develop a plan to address your specific desires.
Having a plan and preparing in advance can turn an unbearable situation into a comfortable inconvenience. Being prepared is being responsible.
